My Sister's Circle 11th grader
and Maryland State Senator Lisa Gladden

Jasmine

I would like to give my heartfelt thanks for all that My Sister's Circle has done over the years for my family. You have made a tremendous impact in our lives. Although Jasmine has been blessed to be a member of your network of sisters, the level of giving and support you give is felt throughout my entire family. MSC has helped Jazz to experience things that I do not have the available resources to expose her to - given my current circumstances. However, you and your program have helped me to decrease the impacts of some of those hardships and give Jazz a fighting chance in life. I am just so appreciative for all that you've done from the new computer, to the sponsoring of our family during the holidays, from the mentoring relationship and now to being accepted into a top level school. I really love MSC.
Thanks again for all you do,
Yolanda (MSC parent)

Kala: visionary
When Kala was nine years old, her mother passed away.  She moved from Seattle to Baltimore to live with her grandmother who eventually gained guardianship.  Her father is incarcerated.  When she entered the fifth grade at Dallas Nicholas, she said she felt alone and scared.  Since then, Kala has become active in My Sister’s Circle and made many new friends.  Over the past six years, she has faithfully attended all of the monthly events sponsored by MSC -- from the BSO to Center Stage to college workshops. Kala also enjoys time with her mentor, a physician in Baltimore. They recently celebrated Kala ’s 16th birthday by going to the Visionary Arts Museum and then taking the ferry to Fells Point to a Japanese restaurant for dinner.  In the summer, Kala has attended the Students’ Sharing Coalition service action camp, and in June, MSC helped her secure a summer job with the Conservation Leadership Corps. As Kala now enters her junior year, she is transferring from a persistently failing and dangerous school to a stronger citywide school.

Ciara: our next legal eagle
Ciara lived with her grandmother who was blind, on dialysis and in a wheelchair.  Her mother, who lives in Washington D.C., battles addiction, and her father is deceased.  Ciara was paired with a mentor who spent a lot of time with her and supported her in ways that her family could not. They continue to attend many of the monthly trips, such as Arsenic and Old Lace at Center Stage Threatre.  MSC secured scholarships to summer programs such as Mercy basketball camp and Echo Hill camp. Her grandmother passed away soon after MSC placed her into Oldfields boarding school, which she calls home. MSC has partnered with Oldfields to provide scholarships, textbooks, uniforms, and more. As she enters her senior year, MSC will help Ciara to prepare for SAT’s and visit colleges. She will be interning at a local law firm this spring.
